          Doctrine

  • Soul Harvest : Doctrinal stances

    Before we begin looking at doctrine we must first get past an unfortunate and unbiblical belief that has become all too common these days. That belief is that doctrine is divisive, causes division, and isn’t important, what is important is that Jesus died for all. It of course is important that Jesus died for all, but doctrine is important. The bible does talk about avoiding divisions, but often we take that to mean “Lets just accept each other and our different beliefs because we are all God’s children”. Paul instructed the church at Corinth to avoid divisions and how did he say they should do it? By having the same mind and using the same judgment. That can only be done by using God’s word and carefully following it’s teachings on doctrine.

    Romans 16:17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.

    1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

    Am I’m wrong? Let’s look further to see. Paul rebuked the Hebrews for not getting past the elementary principles of Christ, such as the resurrection, baptism’s, faith towards God, ect. These truths seem to be the ones we want to linger in, almost as if it shows maturity in our faith to stay there.

    Hebrews 6:1-3 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.

    So what does Paul want them to move on to? I believe it is “Doctrine” and the scriptures below will bear witness of that fact. What does the bible say about doctrine and it’s importance?

    1 Timothy 4:6 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. Here it’s tells us to carefully follow it!

    1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. Here it says it’s important to Salvation! In the book of Revelations it instructs some of the churches to repent of false doctrine or they will loose their salvation.

    1 Timothy 6:3-5 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself. Here it teaches that we shouldn’t even associate with those who have false doctrine.

    2 John 1:9-10 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

    1 Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

    In fact it’s false doctrine that Jesus rebukes in the church of Thyatira and Pergamos. The end times falling away is lead by false doctrine. These verses below all show the importance of Doctrine. Job 11:4, Proverbs 4:2, John 7:16, John 7:17, Acts 2:42, Acts 5:28, Ephesians 4:14, 1 Timothy 1:3, 1 Timothy 1:10, 1 Timothy 4:1, 1 Timothy 5:17, 2 Timothy 3:10, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Timothy 4:3, Titus 1:9, Titus 2:1, Titus 2:7, Titus 2:10, Revelation 2:14-15, Revelation 2:24.

    Now that we have established the importance of doctrine here’s what we believe the bible says on various Doctrines.
