To be more specific God directed men what to write and men recorded what God had said.
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
Now just because the bible states that it was inspired by God that doesn't validate it's claim. So why do we believe it was inspired by God? There is support for this in a number of areas:
1) Fulfilled prophecy
2) Science
3) Historical accuracy
4) Unity of the bible
