  • Soul Harvest : How do I get to Heaven

Before we discuss what the bible has say about getting to Heaven there are some terms we will be using that some may be unfamiliar with. We will be using the term salvation or saved, which basically means the same thing as getting to Heaven. Let me explain. There will be a day when everyone both living and the dead will be raised and brought before God in judgment. God will judge everyone according to His law, from this God will send us to one of two locations, Heaven or Hell. So when the bible talks about being saved it is referring to being saved from God's wrath in Hell. And if you're saved from Hell that only leaves Heaven as the other destination. So now we know what it means to be saved.

The bible states all have sinned and are guilty of breaking God's law. Meaning if we were left in this condition we are all destined for Hell. Now this isn't God's will, in fact He's willing that none would go to Hell (1 Tim. 2:3-4, 2 Peter 3:9). He has provided a way for us to escape this terrible fate. As we explain God's plan for salvation (escaping hell), it is important to know there have been many false conceptions on this subject. This usually occurs when someone builds their belief on a few verses or one verse. The bible states it takes all of God's word to make truth (2 Tim. 3:16 & Psalms 119:160), therefore we must take into account all of the scriptures when building our beliefs on a certain subject. So often we believe God's love will save us, unfortunately this isn't the case. God has given us some choices. So we must make the right choices and accept His conditions in order to be saved from hell. Here are His conditions:

1)Believe. You must believe that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh and that He died for your sins. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the only way to have your sins forgiven! Acts 16:30-31 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

2)By Grace through Faith alone! There is no way you can earn your way to heaven, your good works won't get you there. In fact it says our good works are like filthy rags to God. It is a free gift of grace! Ephesians 2:8-9 For by GRACE you have been saved through FAITH, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

3)You must repent! Repent means to turn from sin and resolve to reform ones life, to feel sorry for. Not to be mistaken with regret for the unfortunate circumstances of life. But true remorse for the fact that we have sinned against God! 2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

4)You must continue! Taking the first step is very important, but it is just the beginning. The thought that we are saved because we have said the "sinners prayer" or have been baptized just isn't biblical. We must continue in our walk with God, constantly staying in His saving grace. Mark 13:13 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. (Also read 1 Tim. 2:15 & 4:16, Romans 2:5-13 & 11:2-22, Col. 1:22-23, Heb. 3:6-4:1, 1 Cor. 15:2)

5)You must be born again. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (Read further: John 3:3-8, Eph. 1:13-14 & Eph. 4:30.) What does it mean to be born again? Simply put it means God's spirit must dwell in you. The verses previously mentioned will give further explanation. How does one receive His spirit? First there is no formula, although the scriptures talk about receiving it by: asking in prayer, through repentance, obedience. Probably the biggest question people have is "How do I know if His spirit is in me?". The bible says you will know them by their fruits, or it talks about fruits of the spirit. So in our section Litmus test we discuss fruits of the spirit and how we can tell if we are filled with his spirit.

Often times our walk with our Lord Jesus has been described as a relationship. The bible points out certain Relationship characteristics you will have if you are truly walking as you ought to. The bible also gives certain Litmus test, to tell if your one of His children. A litmus test is defined as: a definitive test. Now this is not to say that if you slip once and a while your not saved, but if you make a habit of not doing these things the bible speaks of it should concern you. As it says in
2 Cor 13:5 examine yourself to see if your of the faith. If your falling short just resolve to change it. God's mercy is great and He loves you.
