The Rapture of the church.
I propose to show two things, why we should know when the rapture will take place and when that will take place (after the tribulation).
It was important to Jesus and the disciples that we understand these signs. Jesus speaking to the Pharisees rebuked them saying;
Matthew 16:3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times”.
Jesus expects us to discern the signs of the times. His disciples asked for a sign in Matthew 24:3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
We are instructed to look for these things. If we believe we are raptured out before the tribulation it can lead to a few dangers. One, the anti-christ could come into power and establish the anti-christ system with its mark of the beast, but many would not believe, they are still waiting for the rapture of the church. Second, I see many lukewarm believers that know that they should change, but in the back of their mind they are putting it off thinking if millions of Christians suddenly disappear they have seven years to get it right. They will be like the 5 virgins after the Master returned.
Matthew 25:11-13 the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
Mark 13:35-37 Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”
These verses tell us to watch. Why? There is no second chance. It says you will not know when he is coming, but if the church is raptured before the tribulation wouldn’t that tell us we have seven years left before His final return? Finally, and probably the most important Pre-trib. rapture teaches that we won’t have to go through these difficulties ahead. Corrie Ten Boom (a Christian living during WW II) stated she saw many other believers faith failed during those hard times because they where taught Christ would deliver them before times got tough. We are called to suffer tribulation and persecution. I often hear people say things like “this is divisive and what really matters is Jesus dying for our sins and repentance. That should be our focus, not when the rapture will take place”. There is some truth in this. We do (of course) preach Jesus is our savoir to unbelievers, but to remain there in our understanding as the Body of Christ is evidence of our lack of growth. Paul warned of exactly that;
Hebrews 6:1-2 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
